SWAMPSCOTT, Mass. – The fifth-seeded Swampscott boys basketball team Thursday jumped out to a big early lead and held off a comeback by Pittsfield to earn a 73-51 win in the first round of the Division 4 State Tournament.

Swampscott made eight 3-pointers in the first half and led by as many as 17 before the Generals battled back and had a chance to cut the deficit to single digits.

But the hosts hit two more triples in a span of 12 seconds to build up their cushion.

Nick Brindle scored 15 points, and Carter Mungin added 14 to lead Pittsfield.

Jake Salvie scored seven, and Keanu Arce-Jackson scored six for the Generals, who finish the season with a record of 6-16.
