Carlson’s basket with 35 seconds left in the game not only sealed the win, it allowed him to move into first place on the Spartans’ all-time scoring list for boys basketball with 1,100 points, edging Jason Ross’ 1,099.
Monument Mountain (6-0) led, 49-48, going into the fourth quarter.
Isaiah Keefner scored eight of his 15 points, and Sebastian Guete-Ramirez had six of his 14 int the final eight minutes.
Davis Lunn knocked down seven 3-pointers for 21 points to lead Clinton, which lost to the Spartans, 67-50, in the state tournament last year.
Monument Mountain is off until Wednesday, when it visits Hoosac Valley.
