Drury Boys Upset at Cage as Racette Scores His 1,000th
AMHERST, Mass. -- Drury junior Reece Racette scored his 1,000 career point, but Pioneer Valley's Garrett Cote hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to ruin the Blue Devils' night with a 69-68 Pioneer win in the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Division 4 tournament on Monday at Curry Hicks Cage.
Cote scored 32 points, including 13 in the fourth quarter. He had three triples in the fourth and four in the game for the third-seeded Panthers (17-5), who trailed by four points with just more than a minute left to play.
Brendan Edmond added 18 points for Pioneer Valley.
Drury got 22 points apiece from Racette and Chad Lawrence. Scott McGuire added 18 in the loss.
Racette scored his 1,000th career point with a free throw in the third quarter for second-seeded Drury (17-5).
Pioneer Valley moved on to meet the winner of Monday's late game between No. 1 Hopkins and No. 4 Ware. That game will be the second of the six-game bill on Championship Saturday at the Cage.
