Mount Greylock Boys Edge Wahconah by One Point
DALTON, Mass. – The Mount Greylock boys track and field team Tuesday used its strength in the middle distance and distance events to earn a 71-70 win over Wahconah in the first high school meet on Wahconah’s new track.
The Mounties, Mount Everett and Hoosac Valley came to help Wahconah christen the new facility.
Ollie Swabey helped Mount Greylock make the trip home with a 2-0 record in dual meet competition, including the narrow victory over the hosts.
Swabey won the 800 meters and 3200. His teammate Andrew Petropulos won the 1600.
Mount Greylock also took two of the three relays: the 4-by-400 and 4-by-800.
Wahconah’s Payton Shippee was the outstanding performer of the boys meet, winning the 100 and the 200 on the track and the javelin and discus in the field.
Liam Furlong won three events for Wahconah: the 110 and 400 hurdles and the high jump.
Mount Greylock’s girls earned a pair of dominating wins over Wahconah and Hoosac Valley behind Katherine Goss, who took both hurdles and the triple jump.
The Mounties also got two wins apiece from Maggie Nichols (100 and 200) and Chase Hoey (high jump and long jump).
