This month, students depicted life at the four-generation family-owned and operated Ioka Valley Farm at 3475 Hancock Road, specifically highlighting its winter season when they sell Christmas trees.
The week of Jan. 1, Casella will pick up trees on Tuesday (Monday route) and Saturday (Friday route). Trash and recycling pick up is on a one day delay this week due to the holiday.
The city's permanent Christmas tree was lit for the holidays for the first time on Friday. Though the young tree is currently 9 feet tall, it is expected grow up to 50 feet in time.
The ceremony will begin at 6 p.m. with some short speeches and a performance from the Berkshire Hills Chorus once the tree is lit. Santa and Mrs. Clause will then arrive to ring in the holiday season.
