Frontier Softball Stops Monument Mountain
SOUTH DEERFIELD, Mass. – Skyler Steele hit a pair of home runs and drove in four runs Saturday to lead the Frontier softball team to a 7-2 win over Monument Mountain in the first round of the Division 4 State Tournament.
Raine Wonsey struck out 12, walked three and allowed no earned runs to get the win in the circle for 13th-seeded Frontier (12-9), which moves on to to meet the winner of Monday’s game between No. 4 Advanced Math and Science and a winner of a Sunday play-in game in the Round of 16.
Monument Mountain scored both its runs in the fifth inning.
Meg Dupont reached on an error to start the inning, and Lexi Carpenter singled with a line drive to right field.
Then, with two out, Sammy Ulrich singled to left field to drive in both runs and make it 7-2.
Carpenter finished 2-for-4 and Jade Abderhalden doubled in a five-hit Monument Mountain attack.
Andrea Paul went the distance in the circle for the Spartans (15-4), striking out five and allowing four earned runs.
