MG Puts Lenox Away with Big Fifth Inning
LENOX, Mass. -- Something clicked for the Mount Greylock softball team during the fifth inning of its game against Lenox on Friday. The Mounties pounded out 14 hits in the fifth inning alone and scored 18 runs during the frame to put the finishing touches on a 24-0 win in a game shortened by the mercy rule.Seven different Greylock players had multiple hits in the win, including Heather Tomkowicz, Michaela DiNicola and Catie Benoit, who each had four hits and at least two RBI in the game. Sophomore pitcher Alexis Bushika evened her season record at 2-2, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and striking out 10 batters without a single walk.
"Alexis threw well for us," Mounties head coach June Blake said. "She was mixing spots and keeping batters off balanced. Her performance gave our bats time to warm up, collecting 14 hits in the fifth to finish things up."
Greylock now has off until Friday, when it hosts undefeated Hoosac Valley for a 1 p.m. game.
