SHEFFIELD, Mass. – The Mount Everett softball team Friday rallied for four runs in the bottom of the sixth to earn an 8-7 win over Chicopee Comp in the Eagles’ season opener.

Makayla Carpenter went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Chloe Hotaling struck out 11 in a complete-game effort in the circle.

“Good way to start the season this year for the girls,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “We had a rough start to the game with several errors in the first inning but once we settled down and started playing to our potential my true team showed up. Chloe, a seventh-grader, did a great job today on the mound, battling through some of those early season mistakes and put us in a good situation to come out on top.”

Hotaling struck out 11 and walked five while allowing just two earned runs.

She also had an RBI single in the winning rally in the sixth inning.

Aliyah Creamer went 2-for-3 with an RBI and scored two runs in a nine-hit attack for Mount Everett.

The Eagles (1-0) are at Chicopee on Wednesday.
