NORTHBRIDGE, Mass. – Hoosac Valley junior Ashlyn Lesure Sunday recorded her 300th career point, but the Hurricanes dropped a 17-16 decision to Northbridge in the Division 4 State Tournament preliminary round.

Jacinta Felix led Hoosac Valley with five goals and five assists. Lesure had a hat trick and five assists, and Emma Meczywor scored four goals and set up three more in the loss.

“Tough loss and we had a few chances to go ahead for a win,” Hoosac Valley coach Molly West said. “The first quarter was back and forth; we came out 2-0 and then fell 6-2. After a timeout, we fixed what needed to be fixed and came back firing. The rest of the game, we were scrappy, won a majority of ground balls and found the back of the net through intentional cuts/passes.”

Mallory Mazzeo and Reagan Shea each scored a goal, and Cami Lovato and Kennedy Whitley split time in goal for the Canes, combining to stop 13 shots.

Lesure’s 300th point came on the assist of a Felix goal. Lesure ended the game and her junior season with 307 career points.

“Ashlyn is a very special player who works hard all over the field, is unselfish and is a fantastic leader,” West said. “Throughout her career, she has acquired a great number of skills to earn her one of the best players in our league. As a junior, we look forward to seeing her shine next year.”

Hoosac Valley finishes the season with a record of 12-6. No. 32 Northbridge (11-10) advances to play the tournament’s top seed, Weston; the winner of that game will see No. 16 Mount Greylock, a 10-9 winner over Hull in the tournament’s first round on Sunday.

“While I am disappointed in our finale, I could not be more proud of this team who, all year, never gave up and continued to push limits, have positive attitudes and set goals,” West said. “Our program continues to grow and I look forward to seeing what we accomplish next year.”
