Unified Athletes Compete at Mount Greylock

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Mount Greylock Unified Track and Field team Thursday marked another milestone for the school’s new track and field complex.
 
The Unified squad hosted its first home meet on the campus as it welcomed squads from Wahconah and Pittsfield to town for an afternoon of competition.
 
The athletes competed in shot put, javelin, long jumping and running events on the new eight-lane track.
 
Unified Sports are an initiative of Special Olympics that brings together high school students with and without intellectual disabilities and allows them to compete for their schools.
 
At Thursday’s season opening meet, each team kept track of its own marks in the throws, long jump, 100 meters and 400 meters for individuals.
 
The day’s final event, a 4-by-100 relay, saw Wahconah’s A squad cross the finish line first with a time of 1 minute, 4.97 seconds.
 
Pittsfield placed second in 1:09.19.
 
The other four relay quartets on the track, in order, were Wahconah “B” (1:17.30), Mount Greylock “A” (1:25), Wahconah “C” (1:32) and Mount Greylock “B” (2:47.15).
