MIAA Requires Indoor Masking for Student-Athletes this Fall
FRANKLIN, Mass. -- The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Thursday announced that student-athletes and coaches this fall will be required to wear face coverings while participating in indoor activities.
The announcement comes on the heels of Wednesday's mask mandate for public schools from the commissioner of education.
The state interscholastic sports governing body said that masks will not be required this year for student-athletes and coaches engaged in outdoor activities, but will be allowed during MIAA events.
"These are minimum required safety standards that are consistent with the practice of indoor and outdoor recess and indoor and outdoor physical education classes during the school day," the MIAA said in a statement.
The standards will be reviewed prior to Oct. 1.
