Former Taconic Star Turning Heads at Conn. Prep School

Two years ago, Jake Hescock was a standout as a sophomore for the Taconic High School football team.

 

After his sophomore year, Hescock decided to transfer to Salisbury Prep in Canaan, Conn., to focus on bettering his football skills and exposing him to a new level of play that would hopefully take his career after high school to a Division I program.

 

The senior tight end has been in contact with UConn, Boston College, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Temple, and Penn State and says that UConn, Pitt, and Penn State are currently his top three choices.

 

"I'm looking for a program where I can integrate into the offense," Hescock said. "I want to be a pass catching and run blocking tight end."

 

Hescock said that his top three schools use their tight ends a lot in their offense; which ultimately he is looking for.

 

His move to Salisbury Prep was one that brought his level of play and academics to a higher level. 

 

"The practices, games, and workouts all moved to another level. Everyone is in it for the same reason you are and it's a competition everyday," he said. "The school work also moved to a new level. This new level allowed me to learn how to manage my time and take control of my studies."

 

Hescock is still undecided about what he plans to study in college, but he said he wants to make sure to take a path of something that he will love.

 

He said the transition from Taconic to Salisbury was very smooth. He went in for preseason and made quick relationships with his teammates, making the first week of school fairly easy.

 

"I could tell when I arrived that the level of competition was high, practices were full of energy and competition for spots that aren't promised to anyone," he said. "To compete with that you have to raise yourself up to that level."

 

Hescock said the school workload also increased, but there are set times that the team has for everyone to get their work done.

 

Over the past few years he has spent his summers all over the Northeast for football camps. He's been to The National Underclassmen camps, Boston College camp, and Clemson Sports International. This summer he will be attending Rivals Camp Series, The National Underclassman 5 Star, and The Opening by Nike.

 

"This is an amazing opportunity to grow as a student, an athlete, and a man," Hescock said. "I would recommend it to everyone; the friends and relationships I've made here will last a lifetime and more."
