Temporary Traffic Interruptions Near Berkshire Medical Center

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Due to a Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) project to improve the intersections and traffic signals near Berkshire Medical Center (BMC) there will be impacts to traffic in this area throughout the duration of this project beginning on Monday, March 18.
 
While this work is underway, traffic will be reduced to one lane of travel on First Street (U.S. Route 7) and North Street between Burbank Street and Abbott Street from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday through at least May 6.
 
All BMC and Medical Arts Complex (MAC) parking areas remain open during construction. Detours to parking areas may be in place at certain times. For more information in how access to BMC or MAC buildings during this project, visit www.berkshirehealthsystems.org.
 
Additional updates on changes to traffic patterns in this area will be shared as this project starts a new phase.

Pittsfield Road Cut Moratorium

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — The city's annual city road cut moratorium will be in effect from Nov. 29, 2024 to March 15, 2025. 
 
The road cut moratorium is implemented annually, as a precautionary measure, to ensure roads are kept clear of construction work during snow events and to limit the cuts in roads that are filled with temporary patches while material is unavailable.
 
During this period, steel plates are not to be used to cover open excavations in roads. Also, the Department of Public Services and Utilities will not be issuing the following permits:
 
• General Permit
• Sewer Public Utility Connection Permit
• Stormwater Public Utility Connection Permit
• Water Public Utility Connection Permit
• Trench Permit
 
Limited exceptions will be made for emergency work that is determined to be an immediate threat to the health or safety of a property or its occupants.
