Drury High School To Perform Elsewhere

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Drury Stage Company announced performance dates for its production of "Elsewhere" by Don Zolidis.

Performances will take place on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.

According to a press release:

At a boarding school in New Hampshire, the former headmaster's house sits empty, abandoned decades ago after his son disappeared inside and now thought haunted. But when four students break in on a dare, they don't find ghosts or ghouls, but instead a doorway to another world: Elsewhere. Elsewhere is a realm of pure imagination, overflowing with everything Sylvan, Ariel, Jenna, and Vi could ever want: magic, adventure, acceptance, purpose, a half-human, half-buffalo librarian. But the longer they stay in Elsewhere, the more it seems there's something not quite right with the fantasy utopia and the less willing Elsewhere is to let them go back to their real lives. To escape this dream world, the four friends must journey through their darkest nightmares.

All performances will take place in the Drury Performing Arts Center, 1130 South Church Street, North Adams. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. Tickets will be sold at the door.

"Elsewhere" is directed by Liz Urban and features the creative talents of over 40 Drury students in grades 7-12.

"Elsewhere" is produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.

Additionally, a student art show is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the Library. Guests will have the opportunity to view art made by students in grades 7-12 prior to the start of the play. Visual Art students and Studio Art students will each have a piece of art on display. The show will be on view through Nov. 4.

North Adams Package Store Changing Hands Again

By Tammy DanielsiBerkshires Staff
CLARKSBURG, Mass. —The License Commission on Tuesday approved the transfer of a beer/wine package store license for Dave's Package Store.

The license will be held by North Adams Package LLC, which will continue doing business as Dave's.

Avatar Grang of North Adams, the new manager, told the commissioners that the hours and drive-up window will remain the same and that he and one other would be working in the store.

Grang said he did not have experience with running an alcohol store "over here" but was cognizant of the state's liquor laws. He said he was looking to expand his interests.

"I have a business in location in New York, OK, and I'm friends with Abbas for a long time," he said, referring to Abbas Choudhry, who purchased the business and property more than a year ago as Shahmir Properties LLC.

Choudhry, who attended the meeting, said he would stay on until Grang was approved for the license at the state level.

Commissioner Rosemari Dickinson pointed out several errors and typos on the application that she recommended be corrected, including adding in the continued use of the drive-through, before being submitted to the state. She said state inspectors would return the papers or call about anything out of place.
