PITTSFIELD, Mass. — Peyton Steinman scored nine of her 17 points in the third quarter to help the Pittsfield girls basketball team take control on the way to 51-34 win over Taconic on Friday night in the last game of the "War on the Floor" quadruple-header at Pittsfield High School.

The evening featured four games total -- two varsity -- between the two city rivals.

This year, there was a twist: a ceremony between the varsity boys game honoring the hardwood floor laid in the gym earlier this school year.

In the nightcap, the Generals owned that floor.

PIttsfield (8-6) won for the fifth time in six games and avenged a one-point loss at Taconic (7-8) earlier this season.

The game started out looking like a laugher when Pittsfield went on a 13-2 run out of the gates.

But Taconic rallied with an 11-4 run of its own to get the lead down to four early in the second half when Nyanna Slaughter (10 points) scored in the post to make it 17-13.

Pittsfield's Dominique Satrape scored four of her 13 first-half points down the stretch to get the lead back to nine, but Taconic would not go down without a fight.

Angela O'Neil hit a 3-pointer and a lay-up in the final minute of the half to make it 22-19 going to the locker room.
In the third, Pittsfield took control, and Steinman was a big reason why. She and Trinity Cookis hit 3s on back-to-back trips to re-establish a double-digit lead, 36-23, and the Generals never looked back.

Allie Hunt scored eight points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Pittsfield, which travels to Minnechaug on Monday.
O'Neil scored seven, and Shalee Conyers grabbed a game-high 16 rebounds for Taconic, which hosts Wahconah on Tuesday.
