SPRINGFIELD, Mass — It didn't take long for the Hoosac Valley girls' basketball team to get over last week's loss to rival Drury. The Hurricanes rebounded nicely on Thursday night, jumping out to a 22-6 lead after the first quarter on their way to a convincing 72-33 road win over Putnam.

Four different players scored in double figures for Ron Wojcik's club, which led 35-16 at halftime before blowing the game open with a 21-11 scoring advantage in the third quarter. Freshman Emily Rosse led all scorers with 15 points and six rebounds, while senior captain Erica Mach chipped in with 11 points and seven boards.

"We were able to force turnovers, get out and run, and we shot the ball pretty well," Wojcik said. "They struggled all night with our pressure."

Sophomores Jenn Gale and Megan Rodowicz chipped in 10 points each for Hoosac, which also got eight points and eight assists out of junior point guard Tori Rumbolt. Tazhane Springer paced the Putnam offense, scoring 14 points on the night.

The 'Canes (2-1) return to action on Tuesday night, when they host Sci-Tech at 7 p.m.
