Robinson Scores 19 as Hoosac Girls Top Pittsfield
PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley girls basketball team defeated Pittsfield, 69-56, on Wednesday night.
Pittsfield came out putting a lot of pressure on the Hoosac offense, making it difficult for the Hurricanes to finish down low. The Generals were able to convert quickly on their offensive end and took a 28-21 lead at half.
"I thought we missed a lot of layups in the first half," Hoosac coach Ron Wojick said. "We talked about finishing and I thought once we started finishing and doing a better job reading the passing lanes in the third and fourth quarter we were able to get some steals and get going in transition."
With 1 minute, 10 seconds left in the third quarter, Hoosac called a timeout after it tied it at 38. In that final 1:10, the Hurricanes were able to finish the quarter with a 47-38 lead; McKenzie Robinson was sinking them from 3-point range and hit back-to-back shots in the final seconds, giving Hoosac extra momentum going into the final eight minutes.
"We tried to get the ball out of the hands of Fallon Field and Emily Rosse, then you saw what Robinson did," Pittsfield coach Joe Racicott said. "She did a great job."
Hoosac outscored Pittsfield 26-10 in the third quarter and 22-18 in the fourth. The Hurricanes' trap defense was able to create Pittsfield turnovers, where they quickly transitioned on offense to seal the victory.
Robinson finished with 19 for Hoosac. Field had 14, and Maddie Ryan had 12. Both Ryan and Cassidy McMahon fouled out of the game in the fourth quarter.
For Pittsfield, Trinity Cookis finished with 19, Peyton Steinman had 13, and Allie Hunt had 12. Steinman also ended the game in the fourth quarter with five fouls.
Hoosac travels to Drury High School Thursday evening for a 7:30 p.m. start and Pittsfield plays at Taconic Friday at 7.
