Second-half Slump Hurts Hornets versus Rams
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Searching for its first win of the season still, the McCann Tech girls' basketball team came up short against Granby on Thursday, losing 44-21 as a result of a poor second half that saw the Hornets score just seven points.McCann (0-4) was in the game at the break, trailing just 20-14 before the Rams took control with a dominant third quarter. Led by a game-high 10 points from Kiley Baran, Granby went on a 17-6 run in the third before closing out the contest with a 7-1 scoring edge in the fourth.
"It was a rough game," Hornets head coach Kristen Lewis said. "We got tired in the second half. We are working on putting together a whole game. When we can do that, we will be able to hang with anyone. All of the girl's played hard and left what they had on the floor. Hopefully next time around it will end with a different result."
Senior guard Ashley Alibozek and junior forward Xiomara Colon each scored seven points for McCann, which also received five points and a team-high nine rebounds from junior guard Mary Nguyen.
The Hornets are back in action again on Monday night, hosting Belchertown at 7 p.m.
