Hornets Sink Beavers for Second Straight Win
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- After a rough start to the season, the McCann Tech girls' basketball team started building some momentum this week. The Hornets won their second game in a row on Friday, defeating Putnam 41-26 at home to improve to 2-1 in the Bi-County West League.
Mike Dowling's squad fell behind 11-8 at the end of the first quarter, but outscored the Beavers 14-4 in the second to earn a seven-point lead at halftime. McCann (3-5) then pulled away in the third quarter, increasing its lead to 13 points heading into the fourth.
Senior guard Mary Nguyen led all scorers with 18 points for the Hornets. She also added seven rebounds and a team-high five assists. Senior Evelyn Colon and junior Breeanna Rodriguez also scored six points each for the hosts, while junior Eileen Zajac pulled down a team-high 13 rebounds.
Putnam was led by Justice Wallace, who netted 11 points in defeat.
McCann returns to action on Tuesday with a home game against Sci-Tech at 7 p.m.
