Offensive Woes Cost McCann in Latest Defeat
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- In five games this season, the McCann Tech girls' basketball team has only allowed one of its opponents to score 50 points or more. The only problem for the Hornets is their offense has yet to crack the 40-point plateau this year.McCann's offensive struggles continued on Monday night, resulting in a 49-30 home loss to Belchertown that dealt the Hornets their fifth loss in a row. Kristen Lewis' club had two players in double figures but only had five players score overall. McCann never scored more than nine points in a single quarter against the Orioles.
"We continue to struggle with our offense," Lewis said. "Defensively, we are really working hard and stopping the other teams' penetration. We have been doing a great job at boxing out and getting rebounds. Overall, we have worked hard at keeping our opponents under 50 points every game. We just need to finish our shot and continue to work on improving our offense."
Junior guard Mary Nguyen led the Hornets' attack with 11 points and seven rebounds. Senior Ashley Alibozek also chipped in 10 points and four boards for the Hornets, while Tea Spellacy netted a game-high 15 points for Belchertown.
McCann next plays at Holyoke Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
