Blue Devils Cruise to Seventh Straight Win
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- A busy stretch of three games in three days allowed Drury girls' head basketball coach John Franzoni the opportunity to empty his bench on Tuesday night. The Blue Devils ended up using 14 different players, 11 of which scored points, to earn a 45-25 non-league win over New Leadership.
The Drury starters played about a quarter and a half on Tuesday, allowing junior varsity call-ups Katlyn Toomey, Catherine Marceau and Heather Morris to make their varsity debuts. After taking an 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter, the Blue Devils (14-3) took control of the game with an 18-4 run in the second to earn an 18-point lead at halftime. The Drury bench maintained the lead in the second half, allowing the team's starters to rest up for the regular season finale against Monument Mountain tonight. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. in Great Barrington.
"Tonight, we earned a good team win, and we were able to get some quality playing time for all 14 players on our roster," Franzoni said. "We received good efforts off of the bench from Kasha Wissman, Olivia Carlson, Mackenzie Bona and Molly Moulton. Our tough team defense forced 22 turnovers in the contest and did a good job of limiting New Leadership to one shot. We will need another tremendous defensive effort tomorrow night in order to finish our regular season with a road win over a quality opponent."
Despite playing limited minutes, senior forward Shannon Garvey increased her streak of double-digit scoring to eight games. She finished with 12 points and five rebounds, while fellow starter Emily Moulton came through with nine points and a game-high 14 boards. Wissman was strong off of the bench with four points and 10 rebounds.
Tamar Gervais netted a game-high 14 points for New Leadership, which dropped to 14-5 with the loss.
