Commerce Tops Hoosac Boys
CHESHIRE, Mass. — The Hoosac boys began their baptism by fire on Tuesday night with an 83-67 loss to Springfield's High School of Commerce.
Trevor Alibozek led four Hurricanes in double figures with 19 points, but Commerce got 27 from Kori Wilson and used a 26-point fourth quarter to put the game away.
After trailing by as many as 18 in the first half, Hoosac (0-1) took a 48-45 lead late in the third quarter spurred by Corey Puccio, who had seven of his 15 points in the comeback.
But Commerce (1-0) used the size of 6-foot-6 center Joshua Brunson (26 points) and took advantage of devensive lapses by the Hurricanes.
Hoosac had trouble in transition, allowing 27 baskets on lay-ups.
Matt Braman scored 16 and added five assists, and Austin Milesi had 10 points and five rebounds for the 'Canes.
Hoosac has another tough independent game test on Friday at Division 1 Putnam.
