NORTH ADAMS, Mass. – They did not make it into the Western Massachusetts tournament, but the McCann Tech Hornets still have something to play for.

Musa Thompson and Alex McDermott each scored nine points Thursday as McCann Tech earned win No. 9, beating Hopkins Academy, 48-36.

The win in the round of non-Western Mass qualifiers made McCann Tech 9-10 this season.

If it wins on Friday at Turners Falls, a team it just beat, 55-44, in Tuesday’s regular season finale, McCann Tech would qualify for the Division 5 State Tournament for the fourth straight season.

On Thursday, McDermott hit one of his two 3-pointers in the second quarter, when McCann Tech outscored Hopkins, 13-5, to take a 24-14 lead into the second half.

The Hornets take a three-game winning streak, their longest of the season, into Friday night’s game.
