Ullrich Powers Monument Mountain in Opener

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. – Sammy Ullrich Monday homered, doubled and drove in seven runs to lead the Monument Mountain softball team to a 19-2 win over Amherst-Pelham on opening day.
 
The Spartans worked 21 walks and took advantage of three Hurricanes’ errors to end the game in the middle of the fifth inning.
 
Andrea Paul struck out nine and scattered three hits to earn the win in the circle for Monument Mountain.
 
The Spartans (1-0) hosts Gateway on Thursday.
