Tough Shooting Night Dooms McCann in Loss
WESTFIELD, Mass — The McCann Tech boys' basketball team had hit their stride when an off shooting night costs the Hornets in a 46-43 loss at Westfield Vocational on Friday night.McCann (3-6) had won its last three games coming into the contest, but a slow start in the first quarter was a sign of things to come later in the game. Justin Kratz's squad managed an 8-6 lead after the first quarter of play and hung with the Tigers as the game went on by scoring 15 points each in the next two quarters of play. The Hornets had a one-point lead heading into the fourth, but only scored five points over the final eight minutes of play.
"We were a little short-handed tonight," Kratz said. "We really struggled offensively to score. We got good looks, but we just couldn't buy a basket. We played hard and ran our plays pretty well, just nothing was going in. It was a tough night on the road. The one good thing is we held them to 46 points, which I like."
Logan Vanveudheizen netted a game-high 17 points, while Henry Deaza added 13 more points for Westfield. McCann was led by senior forward Mike Chappell, who had a solid overall game with 10 points eight rebounds and three assists. Junior guard Josh Superneau added 10 points for the Hornets, while senior center Zach Giron contributed eight points and eight boards.
McCann next hosts Pathfinder at 7 p.m. on Monday night.
