Drury's Skid Reaches Five Games with Loss to Wahconah
NORTH ADAMS -- The Drury boys' basketball team made more baskets and three more 3-pointers than Wahconah on Wednesday night, but the Warriors owned the free-throw line, outscoring the Blue Devils 25-7 at the charity stripe to earn a 55-46 road win at Bucky Bullett Gymnasium.Wahconah (5-7) sank 25 of 34 attempts from the foul line, while Drury (5-7) made only 7 of 14 to account for the difference in scoring. Jack Racette's club did hit five triples on the night, but the Devils' tendency to shoot from the outside hurt their inside game and limited their chances of getting to the free-throw line.
"They took 34 foul shots," said a frustrated Racette after the game. "We don't go to the basket, so we don't deserve to go to the foul line."
Warriors' forward Greg Horth did the most damage from the line, scoring 10 of his game-high 18 points from the stripe. Teammate John Lavinio also made the most of his free-throw attempts, sinking eight foul shots to finish with 12 points.
After a very competitive first half ended with Wahconah up 27-26, the visitors took control of the game by outscoring Drury 12-5 in the third quarter. The Blue Devils were in the bonus very early in the fourth quarter, putting a damper on their chances of mounting a comeback. The result was Drury's fifth straight loss and the second game in a row in which it lost to an opponent it had defeated earlier in the season. The Blue Devils had previously beaten the Warriors by 14 points in the third game of the year.

Senior forward Tyler Benoit led the hosts with 13 points, while junior guard Robert Jutras netted 12 points in a losing effort. No other Drury players had more than seven points, however, making Wednesday's game the ninth time out of 12 games in which the Blue Devils failed to break the 50-point plateau.
"We scored 46 in our own gym, and we turned it over 23 times," Racette said. "We have great kids and they work their tails off, but 46 points isn't winning you any basketball games."
Drury will try to break its current losing steak when it hosts St. Joe's on Friday night.
