Monument Mountain Softball Tops St. Mary's
WESTFIELD, Mass. – Elee Hull went 2-for-4 with a double Friday to lead the Monument Mountain softball team to an 11-2 win over St. Mary’s of Westfield.
Mia Wade went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs, and Meg Dupont struck out four to earn the win in the circle.
“Our outfield played a phenomenal game today and did a great job minimizing damage on solid hits,” Monument Mountain coach Jamie Downer said. “Some big catches from those three prevented a lot of runs being scored today. Grace [Fosser] was solid behind the plate and has consistently been a huge part of limiting runners from taking extra bases.”
After falling behind 2-0 in the bottom of the first, the Spartans scored four times in the second to take control of the game.
Takaiya Brown and Shelby Birnhak had back-to-back singles in the four-run rally. Both also figured into Monument Mountain’s defensive exploits.
“Takaiya Brown made a phenomenal diving catch in the 3rd inning,” Downer said. “Bella Viola made a great catch on a blooper up the middle, Jade Abderhalden knocked down a rocket line drive back to first and made the play, Shelby Birkhak made a nice catch in right.”
The Spartans (5-2) host Mount Everett on Saturday.
