Greylock Too Sloppy In Loss To Wahconah
DALTON, Mass. — Despite outhitting Wahconah 9-8, the Mount Greylock softball team made too many errors on Monday, resulting in a 12-5 road loss to the Warriors.The Mounties (8-3) made five mistakes in the field, allowing Wahconah to score a season-high 12 runs against them. It made for a tough outing for Greylock starter Heather Tomkowicz, who only allowed four earned runs on the day. The sophomore hurler struck out four batters and walked five to take the loss.
The Mounties' offense actually hit the ball well against Warriors' starter Becca Grunow, but defensive miscues allowed the hosts to score four runs in the bottom of the first inning and seven more in the third to open up a sizeable 11-2 lead. Grunow allowed five earned runs on the day, fanning two and walking three in a complete-game effort.
Sophomore Meredith Dezieck led the way for Greylock, going 3-for-4 with one run batted in. Senior Michaela DiNicola also went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while junior Anna Penna finished 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.
The Mounties return to action on Friday with a home game against Monument Mountain at 5 p.m.
