Double Dose of Meczywor Downs Mohawk
SHELBURNE FALLS, Mass. -- Amanda Meczywor got the job done on both sides of the ball on Tuesday, shutting down the Mohawk offense with a stellar pitching performance and adding four RBI on offense to lead the Hoosac Valley softball team to a 10-2 win on the road. The senior captain pitched a complete-game two-hitter against the Warriors, striking out nine batters without a walk. She also helped the Hurricanes (2-0) to their second 10-run output in a row by going 3 for 4 at the plate with an RBI single in the first inning and a three-run homer in the second inning. After scoring four runs in the first inning, Hoosac jumped out to a decisive 7-1 lead thanks to Meczywor\'s first dinger of the season.
"Amanda pitched another great game today," Shafer said. "She only allowed two hits and they both came in the last inning of the game. She was also on fire offensively today."
Junior Tanelle Ciempa also helped do damage on offense, going 3 for 4 with an RBI single in the third inning and another two-run base hit in the seventh. Classmate Sabrina Sommer also chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Overall, the Hurricanes outhit the Warriors 10-2.
"Defensively, Sam Howe had a good day for us at second base," Shafer said. "She had one double play when their leadoff batter hit a line drive at her, and she threw the runner out at first. She then had another great play with a leaping catch for a fly ball between first base and right field."
Hoosac is now off until Friday afternoon, when it hosts Pittsfield for a game at 4 p.m.
