Athlete of the Week: Tori Rumbolt
Tori Rumbolt has been a major factor in the Hurricanes turning their season around after an 0-6 start. Since then, Rumbolt has been one of the main reasons why Hoosac has won seven out of its past eight games. The junior shortstop was at it again last week, helping the Hurricanes to three wins in five days.
On Wednesday, Rumbolt helped the 'Canes pick up their second win of the week in a 5-1 win over rival Drury. With her team down 1-0, Rumbolt started a four-fun fourth inning with a double to left field. She later scored the game's tying run as Hoosac pulled away to even the season series with the Blue Devils.
Rumbolt had an even better game in a 13-1 mercy-rule win over Monument Mountain on Friday. With her team down 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning, Rumbolt gave the Hurricanes the lead for good with her first home run of the year, a two-run shot to left. She ended up reaching base two other times on walks, stealing four bases and scoring two more runs.
Besides playing terrific defense at short all season long, Rumbolt is also leading the team in five different offensive categories. She's hitting .432 on the year with a team-high 19 hits, 12 runs scored, 11 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
