Hoosac Hammers Lee To Win Second Straight
LEE, Mass. — After losing six straight games to start the season, Caroline Tomkowicz and the Hoosac Valley softball team look to be officially on a roll now.Two days after pitching a complete-game, one-hitter in a 2-0 win over St. Joe's, Tomkowicz followed that up with a complete-game, two-hitter in a 14-0 road win over Lee. The sophomore hurler struck out nine batters and walked none in a game shortened to six innings because of the mercy rule. In her first two starts of the year, Tomkowicz has 22 strikeouts compared to just one base on balls.
Tomkowicz also had a great day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and two runs scored. It was just part of a 15-hit attack for the Hurricanes' offense, which broke the game open with an eight-run second inning. Junior Tori Rumbolt also had a stellar game with the bat, going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBIs and one run scored. Sophomore Kassandra Kazimierczak added three hits and scored three runs for Hoosac (2-6), while senior Sabrina Sommer collected a pair of RBIs.
Ashley Sommerville took the loss for the Wildcats, allowing five runs in just two innings of work. The Hurricanes next host Mount Greylock at 4 p.m. on Friday.
