McCann Can't Capitalize on Strong Start by Haring
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Senior Katlyn Haring had a good day in the both the circle and at the plate, but the McCann Tech softball team couldn't string enough hits together to avoid a 2-0 loss to Ware at home on Tuesday.Haring went 2 for 3 at the plate, accounting for half of the Hornets' four hits on the day. She also threw a great game from the circle, allowing two unearned runs on six hits in a full seven innings of work. Haring only had one strikeout, but she didn't walk a single batter in the loss. The Indians scored one run in the fourth inning and added to their small lead by scoring one more run in the seventh.
While she was happy about the way her team competed against the top club in their division, Hornets head coach Robin Finnegan was frustrated with a McCann miscues, which included three errors on defense and a runner being picked off of third base for the final out of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning.
"Unfortunately, Ware capitalized on a couple of errors to score their runs," Finnegan said. "We could not string our hits together to score, but this was a well-played game. Ware's defense came to play, as their outfield snagged a couple of rockets that were hit to the fence. Their pitcher was very good, and we couldn't find the gaps. If we want to advance in the [Western Mass.] tournament, we can not have the mental breakdowns that we had today."
Junior Ashley Alibozek and senior Amanda Cariddi added the other two hits for the Hornets, who close out the regular season with a 4 p.m. home game against Gateway on Thursday.
