Hornets Caught Flat-Footed in Loss to Rams
SOUTHWICK, Mass. -- The McCann Tech softball team just wasn't sharp enough in the field in its game against Southwick on Friday. The Hornets made an uncharacteristic six errors on defense, while the Rams played mistake free in an 11-6 win at home.McCann starter Katlyn Haring didn't have her best stuff on Friday, allowing eight runs combined over the first two frames. The Hornets' senior lasted four innings overall, giving up eight earned runs with eight strikeouts and zero walks. Junior Erika Ziemba pitched two scoreless innings to end the game, fanning two batters and walking one.
"We came up against a much-improved Southwick team," Hornets head coach Robin Finnegan said. "They were better than us today. They came to play, and we, however, did not. It's as simple as that. They hit the ball well, and we were caught flat-footed all day."
Despite the difference in the final score, McCann (8-6) was only outhit 10-9 in the game. Junior Ashley Alibozek led the Hornets' attack, going 3 for 4 with one RBI and two runs scored. Senior Bryana Malloy also went 2 for 3 while scoring a run in the game.
McCann next hosts Lee at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
