Sunn Leads Hornets To Win On Senior Day
NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — After a brief hiccup in a loss to Southwick on Monday, the McCann Tech softball team rediscovered its late-season success with a 9-4 home win over Sabis on Wednesday. After starting the season 1-12, the Hornets have now won four of their last five games.Sophomore Jessica Sunn was a major reason for McCann's latest victory, going 4 for 4 with a triple, double, two RBIs and three runs scored. The Hornets (5-13) trailed 4-1 after two and a half innings, but the Hornets' offense got rolling from there. Robin Finnegan's squad scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to tie the game before pulling away with four runs in the sixth. McCann ended up smacking 15 hits in all against Sabis starter Ariel Dudek, who allowed eight earned runs and one walk to take the loss.
"We finally played seven innings of softball," Finnegan said. "We played very well defensively and our bats were getting it done. It was a great win on Senior Day."
Three of those seniors, Erika Ziemba, Brittany Briggs and Jamie LeTourneau, each had a double and two base hits. Junior Sarah Norman also added a triple, while Ziemba went the distance to pick up the win in the circle. She improved her record to 5-12 this year, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, finishing with five strikeouts and four walks.
The Hornets next play at Gateway at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
