The Crusaders put two runners in scoring position in the first inning but came up empty thanks to sold defense by the Blue Devils.
"I believe the outcome of the game would have different had we not responded to the pressure put on us in the first inning," Maroni said.
"We then came back with two runs in the second -- a single by [Maya] Howland, after an out, a base hit bunt by [Jordan] Vanuni and a two-run double by Olsen."
Drury doubled its lead in the fifth thanks to a two-run double by Amber Iacuessa.
"Iacuessa had the defensive play of the game in the fourth inning, diving to her right and throwing the runner out at first from her knees," Maroni said.
Drury (5-8) snapped a three-game losing streak with the victory.
The Blue Devils will look to stay in the win column on Friday when they travel to Hoosac Valley for a game scheduled for 7 p.m. Maroni said on Thursday the time may be moved to 4 p.m. depending on the weather forecast.
