Hoosac Valley Tops Pittsfield in Opener

PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Emma Meczywor scored eight goals and passed out five assists on Friday to lead the Hoosac Valley girls lacrosse team to an 18-8 win over Pittsfield in the season opener for both teams.
 
Jacinta Felix had a hat trick, and Ashlyn Lesure, Reagan Shea and Rylin Larabee each scored a pair of goals for the Hurricanes.
 
Lesure also finished with six assists in the win.
 
“We came out a little rusty in the first half but completely used the transition game to our benefit in the second half,” Hoosac Valley coach Molly West said. “It was only our second time outside and we have a lot to work on, but it was a complete team win.”
 
Lillianah Ferris scored four goals, and Shay Kozlowski had a hat trick for Pittsfield, which got a goal and three assists from Ella Korboth.
 
“PHS goalie Laniyah Gregory (18 saves) was outstanding in the goal, and Ella Krobuth was strong on draws,” West said.
 
Kennedy Whitley and Cameron Lovato split time in goal for Hoosac Valley, combining for 13 saves for the Hurricanes (1-0), who are at Chicopee next Thursday.
 
Pittsfield (0-1) is at Chicopee Comp on Monday.
