Washburn Leads Wahconah Past Belchertown Boys Lax
DALTON, Mass. -- Connor Washburn scored four goals and set up five more Saturday to lead the Wahconah boys lacrosse team to a 13-2 win over Belchertown.
“This was the first time we've beaten Belchertown and it feels good,” Wahconah coach Zachary Sondrini said. “The last two years they got the best of us. Belchertown’s goalie made tons of huge saves but we just kept shooting. We had great ball movement and transition. We did a great job riding and then pushing the ball down the field.”
Wyatt Schliecher scored four times, and Dart Jaggi scored twice for Wahconah (11-7), which got four saves from Vinny Orlandi.
Sondrini was especially happy with the way Washburn distributed the ball.
“Connor Washburn did a great job of finding the open guy and being unselfish,” Sondrini said. “I love it when he has more assists than goals. He's trying to make his teammates better. And we need some key middies to step up for Western Mass, and he knows that. Getting their confidence up is key.”
Wahconah has one more chance to improve its tournament seeding, Tuesday at home against Vermont’s Stratton Mountain.
