Westfield Tech Downs Lenox in D5 Tournament
LENOX, Mass. – The Westfield Tech baseball team Friday got a two-run single from Jack Hall to take a 7-4 lead in the top of the fifth and hung on for a 7-5 win over Lenox in the Division 5 State Tournament Preliminary Round.
A pair of Tigers errors allowed Max Shepardson to score a run for Lenox in the bottom of the fifth, but Westfield Tech pitcher Antonio Simpson got a line drive to left with the bases loaded to strand three Lenox runners and end the inning with a two-run lead.
Simpson retired the side order in the sixth and worked around a leadoff single by Robert Bazinet in the bottom of the seventh.
Bazinet and Zack Nicotra each had a pair of hits for Lenox, which got a double from Jack Hicks.
Jason Sibley and Max Shepardson split time on the hill for the Millionaires, striking out four and allowing four earned runs between them.
Lenox finishes the season with a record of 9-11.
No. 34 Westfield Tech (14-5) advances to play second-seeded Hopedale in the Round of 32.
