PITTSFIELD , Mass. — Late game heroics led the Mount Anthony softball team past Taconic, 4-3, on Monday.

In the start of a four-game week for Taconic, the Thunder fell just short.

Mount Anthony has had Taconic's number for a couple years in a row, taking an 8-0 win when the teams met last spring.

On Monday, Taconic started senior Cheyann Goddard in the circle against the potent Patriots lineup.

Goddard managed a solid outing, only allowing six hits.

With these six hits came a load of strikeouts as well.

“This game was not entirely unexpected but I will say we put up a much better fight than last year," Taconic coach Bree Goddard said.

“Sometimes we don’t get the result we want out of our hitting or pitching. It'sjust something to work on.”

Taconic went on top early, taking a 2-0 lead in the first on RBIs by Goddard and Abby Soto.

Mount Anthony took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth and an RBI triple by Eva Cross in the fifth.

In the bottom of the fifth, Maddie Harrington's RBI single plated Kylie Duhamel to tie the game, 3-3.

But in the sixth, the visitors went on top for good thanks to an RBI triple from Emilee George (2-for-3).

Taconic's offense was clicking early but never kept the momentum getting later into the contest.

Taconic players Ella Stodden and Audrina Maloneu led their team with a combined four hits in the game.

A few costly mistakes ultimately led to Taconics defeat, including a miscommunication on the base paths causing a runner to be caught out at home on a passed ball.

Taconic (1-2) now faces the difficult challenge of makeup games added to the regularly scheduled contests this week, starting next against Frontier Regional Tuesday then Mount Greylock Thursday.
