DALTON, Mass. – Jason Jaros and Jake Newberry each had a pair of hits Tuesday to lead the Mount Greylock baseball team to a 7-4 win over Wahconah.

“This was a huge win and a big step in the right direction for our program,” Mount Greylock coach Rick Paris said. “Our guys were able to overcome some adversity and stay focused which in turn helped lead to our victory.”

Cole Witherell earned the win on the mound, striking out five and walking two while allowing four runs – all unearned – in 4-? innings of work.

“Our winning pitcher Cole was struggling in the first inning but, with a 1-0 lead for Wahconah with bases loaded and one out, Cole was able to get a dribbler in front of the plate and Tommy [Art] made a great play touching home and throwing to first for a double play,” Paris said. “That was a pivotal point early in the game.  Cole then started to bear down and make some great pitches which in turn got him the W.”

Mount Greylock scored five times in the top of the fourth to take a 5-2 lead and never looked back. Jaros hit a two-run single in that rally.

Luke Ferguson, Tyler Dostie and James Rabuse each had a hit for Wahconah.

Rabuse went the distance on the mound, striking out six in the loss.

Wahconah (1-1) hosts Pittsfield on Friday.
