SHEFFIELD, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley baseball team had a rare two-city, bus-ride doubleheader on Sunday. The good news for the Hurricanes is they scored more runs in one inning than most teams score in two games in most twin bills.

Bob Rivard's club trailed 3-2 against Mount Everett after the third inning in the first of their two games of the day. Hoosac then proceeded to bust out for nine runs in the top of the fourth inning on its way to a 15-3 win on the road.

Junior Zach Lancia and senior Nick Bourdon each had two-run singles in the fourth, while junior Slayter Aubin chimed in with an RBI triple. Classmate Tanner Bird and senior Collin Kline also had RBI hits in the frame for the Hurricanes (12-7), who chased out Eagles' starter Erik Derwitsch before leaving the inning with an 11-3 lead. Hoosac pounded out 13 hits overall in the game, led by Bird's 4 for 4 effort with three runs scored.

Lancia, Aubin and Kline also had big days at the plate, each finishing with a pair of hits and two runs batted in.

"The team hit and pitched well today in what was a very good team win," Rivard said. "Tanner Bird pitched good for only his third time out, and Zack Brassard finished the game strong."

Bird also picked up the win on the mound to improve his season record to 2-1. He allowed two earned runs and two walks, striking out seven batters through four innings of work. Brassard then took over and tossed the final three frames, fanning three batters without allowing a walk.
