Solid Pitching Propels Hoosac over Lenox
LENOX, Mass. -- Senior Collin Kilne came up with a quality start, and the Hoosac Valley baseball team came up with some timely hitting to carry the Hurricanes to a 7-3 win at Lenox on Thursday.Kline allowed just two earned runs over six innings of work to improve his season record to 2-2. He struck out five batters and walked five more before giving way to Hoosac reliever Nick Burzimati, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning to close out the game.
The Hurricanes (11-6) took control of the game by scoring seven times between the second and fourth frames to open a 7-2 lead. Junior Zach Lancia led the way with a 3 for 3 effort at the plate and two RBI, while Nick Bourdon added a solo home run and scored a pair of runs.
"The pitching was very good today," Hoosac head coach Bob Rivard said. "Collin and NIck were in control. The team had some timely hits. Zach had three nice hits, and Nick's home run was a smash. The team is playing better at the right time of the year."
Austin Sainitis started and pitched four innings to take the loss for the Millionaires. Chris Considine's double was the only extra-base hit for Lenox all game long.
The 'Canes close out the regular season with a rare double header in two different locations on Sunday, first playing at Mount Everett at 11 a.m. before traveling to St. Joe's for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
