ADAMS, Mass. — Devon Johnston pitched like a player trying to keep his team's season alive on Wednesday, holding the Hoosac Valley baseball team to just one run on four hits in an 8-1 road win for Saint Joseph's.

Johnston threw a complete game, striking out three batters without allowing a walk to improve the Crusaders' record to 9-10 this season. He gave up just four singles on the day, one of which senior Jesse Larabee used to score Hoosac's only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. That made the score 4-1 with one inning to go, but St. Joe's put the game away by scoring four runs off of Hurricanes' reliever Brandon Tworig in the top of the seventh.

"We couldn't get anything going with the bats," Hoosac head coach Bob Rivard said. "Johnston kept us off balance and, when we hit the ball, it was at somebody. Zach Brassard pitched well for us, but we couldn't help him out."

Brassard pitched six strong innings for the Hurricanes (11-8), allowing three earned runs to drop his record to 1-2 this year.

Hoosac closes out the regular season with a Berkshire Classic game at home against Monument Mountain at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
