Brassard Hurls Hurricanes To Victory
ADAMS, Mass. — Senior Zach Brassard helped the Hoosac Valley baseball team overcome a brief two-game losing streak on Friday, allowing just one earned run on three hits in an 8-2 win over Lee at Renfrew Park.Brassard threw a complete game, striking out eight batters with just one walk to earn his first win of the year. He allowed single runs in both the second and fourth innings, but the Hurricanes (8-4) were in control from the start, scoring four runs combined over the first three frames.
"I thought Lee played well, and I was a little worried because we hadn't played in almost a week," Hoosac head coach Bob Rivard said. "Zach went the distance and pitched great, though, and our offense was able to collect 12 hits on the day."
Senior Tanner Bird did the most damage at the plate for the 'Canes, going 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and one run scored. Classmate Conner Tworig also went 2-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs, while fellow senior Mike Koperniak belted a triple and drove in a pair of runs. Brassard and Zach Lancia also added two hits each for Hoosac.
Matt Consolati took the loss for the Wildcats (4-10), allowing four earned runs and two walks in three innings of work. Aaron Biasin drove in both runs for the Lee offense.
The Hurricanes are back in action on Saturday morning with a game at rival Drury at 10:30.
