METHUEN, Mass. – Mount Greylock’s Jacob Borawski Friday night advanced to the semi-finals of the All-State Wrestling Championships at Methuen High School.

Borawski earned a 5-1 decision over Watertown’s Brady Gleason in the quarter-finals to earn a spot against Sharon’s Cyrus Jones in the Final Four on Saturday morning.

Borawski entered the meet as the tournament’s No. 15 seed at 175 pounds.

He had to wrestle his way into the main draw by pinning Nashoba’s Daniel De Almeida in the second period of their preliminary round match.

Then, Borawski pinned second-seeded and hometown favorite Vincent Demaio of Methuen just 1 minute, 11 seconds into their match to reach the quarters.

Borawski is the only Berkshire County grappler still contending for a title at the two-day meet, but several local wrestlers remain in the consolation brackets.

His teammate, Jayquan Vazquez, dropped his opener at 190 pounds but bounced back to pin Foxborough’s Joshua Hindin to reach Day 2 at the meet.

Both Mount Everett Eagles at the meet are still alive in the wrestlebacks.

At 113 pounds, Diego Cruz earned a major decision in his first match on Friday before falling, 9-7, to New Bedford’s Anthony Bojorquez in the quarter-finals. On Saturday, Cruz will look to stay alive for a bronze medal against Norton’s Kayden Plumb.

Mount Everett’s Connor Lupiani also reached the quarters at 138 pounds but lost to Andover’s Jason Ballou to drop into the consolation bracket. He will start his Saturday against North Attleborough’s Alexander Robin.

Monument Mountain’s Sam St. Peter (285 pounds) earned a 9-0 major decision in the Round of 16 but was pinned by Chelmsford’s Thomas Brown in the quarter-finals. St. Peter will face Nashoba’s Ben Leahy in the consis on Saturday.

Taconic’s West Dews (144 pounds), who won a Division 3 State Championship last weekend, bowed out of the all-state meet with a pair of losses on Friday.

Also at Methuen High on Friday, Mount Everett’s Yaritza Cruz-Bravo competed in the All-State Girls Wrestling Championships. Competing at 126 pounds, Cruz-Bravo lost a pair of matches, bowing out of the consolation bracket with a 6-2 loss to Billerica’s Hailey Bornstein.
