Mount Greylock Girls, Boys Each Second at State Championships

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Chase Doyle and Maggie Nichols each posted runner-up finishes Saturday to lead the Mount Greylock boys and girls track and field teams to second place finishes at the Division 6 State Championship at Westfield State University.

 

Doyle finished second in the 110-meter hurdles. He also placed third in the high jump and ran a leg on the Mounties’ third-place 4-by-400 relay quartet.

 

Nichols finished second in the 100 and ran on Mount Greylock’s 4-by-100 quartet, which placed third in the state.

 

The lone Berkshire County athlete to pick up an individual title on the second day of the meet on Saturday was Monument Mountain’s Lily Haskins-Vaughan, who won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, 4 inches.

 

Her 10 points helped the Spartans place 15th out of 41 girls teams earning points on Thursday and Saturday.

 

Mount Greylock’s girls picked up a bushel of medals on Saturday, including two in the javelin, where Nora Lopez placed third and Charlotte Coody was fourth, both recording marks of 110-10.

 

Mount Greylock’s boys also earned three medals in the javelin, where Jenner Kittle placed third and Judge Martin was fifth.

 

Wahconah’s boys were the second Berkshire County finisher, placing 11th out of 39 teams earning points. Payton Shippee placed fourth in the javelin, and Alex Perenick, who won Thursday’s pentathlon, came back on Saturday with a sixth-place showing in the 110 hurdles.

 

Taconic’s boys placed 16th in the state with a pair of podium spots on Saturday. The Thunder’s 4-by-100 relay finished second, and Josh Stevens placed third in the shot put.
