Shippee Fifth in Discus at All-State Track Meet

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Wahconah’s Payton Shippee placed fifth in the discus at Thursday’s All-State Track and Field Championships at Fitchburg State.
 
Shippee’s best throw went 165 feet, 7 inches.
 
The event was won by Alex Jackson of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School with a throw of 173-6.
 
Shippee also is entered in the event’s javelin competition, which will be held on the second and final day of the meet on Saturday.
 
Berkshire County had one other top 10 finish on Thursday’s opening day.
 
Mount Greylock’s Maggie Nichols placed sixth in the 200 meter dash.
 
Nichols ran a time of 25.25 seconds in the finals of the event, shaving .14 seconds off her time in the preliminaries and .15 seconds off her seed time going into the event.
 
Nichols also will make the trip east again on Saturday to compete in the 100.

Triple jump: 1. Gabrielle Pierre, Lincoln-Sudbury, 40-10; 19. Katherine Goss, Mount Greylock, 34-3.25.
Discus: 1. Sophia Axelrod, Walpole, 134-7; 17. Taylor Garabedian, Hoosac Valley, 104-8.
