Greylock Falls Despite Besnard's Big Day
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Despite a game to remember by junior goalkeeper Margot Besnard, the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team lost its second straight game on Monday, dropping a 2-1 decision to Pittsfield.Besnard gave up two goals in the first 21 minutes of the game, but kept the Mounties (5-3-2) in the contest by making 19 saves. She also scored her team's only goal by knocking in a penalty kick in the 32nd minute of the game. Despite Besnard's efforts, however, Greylock was unable to net the equalizer as both teams went scoreless in the second half.
"It was just another in a string of great games by our keeper," Mounties head coach Tom Ostheimer said of Besnard. "She kept us in the game by shutting down a powerful Pittsfield offense for nearly 60 minutes. Unfortunately, we were unable to get the equalizer."
Sydney Deluce put the Generals (5-3) on top by scoring off of a pass from Kay McGovern in the fourth minute of the game. Katie Bradley then came through with a goal that ended up being the game winner in the 22nd minute.
Greylock next plays at St. Joe's at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
