Majetich's Goal Gives Mounties Win over Braves
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Margot Besnard is really starting to figure out this whole goal keeping thing. Alex Majetich, meanwhile, is getting pretty handy at putting the ball in the back of the net.The two juniors on the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team have played pivotal roles in their team's success early on this season. They were back at it again on Monday, as Besnard made 15 saves to preserve her fourth shutout of the year, while Majetich scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season to lead the Mounties to a 1-0 win over Taconic at John T. Allen Field.
Majetich scored off of an assist from senior captain Annie Flynn in the 22nd minute of the game, helping Greylock to a 1-0 lead at the break despite being outshot by Taconic 12-5 in the first half. The Braves (0-1-1) actually held a 21-12 advantage in shots in the game, but Besnard came up with some clutch saves to clinch the win for her team.
"It was just a miraculous game by Margot," Mounties head coach Tom Ostheimer said. "She made three or four spectacular saves to preserve the shutout."
Besnard has recorded shutouts in four out of the five Greylock games so far this season, earning an impressive 0.8 goals against average in the process.
The Mounties next go on the road to play a 3-0 Lenox team at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.
