Greylock Finds Scoring Touch in win over Lee
WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Scoring goals was a problem for the Mount Greylock girls' soccer team last season. It was only one game, but the Mounties have to be pleased with how the offense looked in a 4-0 season-opening win over Lee on Thursday.Tom Ostheimer's club scored as many goals against the Wildcats as it did against any other opponent in the 2010 season. Senior Annie Flynn and junior Alexandra De Veaux each had a goal and an assist, while eighth-grader Halay Reinhard made her prescence known in her first varsity game by collecting a pair of assists.
"This was a great start to the season," Ostheimer said. "Although we are young, we are a well-balanced team both offensively and defensively. I think we illustrated this balance by having four different girls score last night."
Junior Alex Majetich and sophomore Miranda Bucky also scored goals for Greylock, while junior goalkeeper Margot Besnard stopped four shots to earn her first shutout of the year.
"The entire defense played well, too," Ostheimer said. "We look forward to playing the South Division champion, Hoosac Valley, on Monday."
The Mounties will host the Hurricanes in their season opener at 4 p.m. on Monday.
